Traditional Scottish cafe selling tea, range of coffees, snacks and cakes. Clean toilets with light switches outside. Prices reasonable, mainly locals. Handy for railway station and buses.

I visited the Village Cafe a couple of weeks ago. I was in the mood for a pasta dish and noticed that the Italian restaurant a few doors down was offering a one course lunch for £5.95 but thought that was a bit too expensive for just one and as the Village Cafe was just a small run of the mill type, assumed my lunch would be cheaper. How wrong could I be?! I ordered macaroni cheese and chips and a can of cola, I had thought that the price of macaroni at £3.50 included chips and given the fact the macaroni cheese when served, consisted of plain boiled pasta with a light sprinkling of cheddar cheese grated on top and some chips,the macaroni should have been served in a cheese sauce, in short it was disgusting, the small portion of chips were ok. Imagine my horror when I was charged £6.50 for this appalling meal and £1.70 for a can of cola. Total price = £8.20 I complained that I felt I was overcharged for the meal and was referred to the menu, where I found that yes, macaroni cheese and chips in this cafe is £6.50, which is just ridiculous for a cafe of this standing.I have been most vociferous in enlightening my friends and neighbours, who are going to give it a "miss" and when I'm next in Bishopbriggs will walk right past the Village Cafe and have my pasta in the Roma Italian restaurant!
