The Wellington Street Fish Bar is probably a secret only known by locals. As visitors to Matlock, we discovered it by chance, and it's now our little treat - enjoying wonderfully fresh fish and chips overlooking Matlock Dale. Run by a father and daughter, there's a feeling of traditional charm and nostalgia, where opening hours are limited and customers are known by their name. The choice on offer is superb (I've previously enjoyed a pot of stilton sauce - please don't judge me!) and the food is cooked to order (you can telephone in advance and collect at your chosen time). We visited again today - a 1.5hr drive to explore the sights and streets, rewarded with the best fish and chips... ...just don't tell everyone!

Fantastic choice and much greater than your usual fish and chip shop. The batter was superb. Only downside is that medium size of cod is on the smallish side but appreciate that raw materials price has risen lately. Meal type: Dinner Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
