I’ve been going to Yamitsuki for 4+ years. The food is amazing, the store is beautifully decorated, and the drinks are awesome. As of recently, however, the customer service has been horrible. I used to be a regular and the attitudes I’ve been getting for the past 6+ months in comparison to times prior has completely turned me off of the restaurant. There has been a couple of times I walked into the nearly empty store and been sat DIRECTLY next to another party. I’m walking couples being placed side by side with 5 empty seats following them. I find it to be very inconsiderate. If you come in during the lunch special the servers often deliberately ignore you in order to charge the full price. I know this is the case because I’ve been here plenty of times during their regular hours w/o any sort of issues being serviced. There was even one a time they tried to charge me full price even though I was well within the discounted time frame I would’ve never noticed if my friend didn’t say anything. The gratuity on parties as small as 3 is also true. It is fairly recent thing they started doing and uncommon in Philadelphia as it typically starts on parties of 6. I have no problem paying it and I tip every-time, I was caught off guard when they just started to be adding w/o prior warning. I will lastly add that this establishment is cash only Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays which has been creating issues for people with this new gratuity. I’m writing this in hopes that you guys improve, the owner seems to only reply to positive comments on here while completely ignoring valid critiques which is not a good look. There are plenty of ramen places and this used to be my favorite :( If my experiences improve maybe I’ll change my mind but I would suggest researching other options as well. Price per person: $20–30 Food: 5 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 4

Just wanted to share our experience so others are aware. My friends and I came here as a party of four. The menu says an 18% service charge is only added for parties of six or more, so we weren’t expecting any automatic gratuity. After we left, we realized a 20% gratuity had already been added to our bill. Since no one told us it was included, we also left an extra tip without realizing we were tipping twice. We reached out afterward, and they told us it was because of a “World Cup all-you-can-eat event.” The problem is that this was never mentioned to us at any point during our visit. We also got different explanations about whether the 20% charge was mandatory or just recommended, which was pretty confusing. This also wasn’t our first uncomfortable experience. On a previous visit, we felt pressured about tipping and were told that the staff rely on tips, which didn’t sit right with us. Not trying to bash the restaurant—we just think service charges like this should be clearly communicated before customers order or pay. Just double-check your bill so you don’t end up accidentally tipping twice like we did. Food: 3 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 2
