I placed an order through Grubhub, but instead of allowing a Grubhub driver to deliver the food and close out my order, the restaurant sent out one of their employees to deliver the food to my home. 90 minutes after my food was delivered, the Grubhub app still said the restaurant was making my food, and no driver had been assigned to my order to track. No Grubhub app notification, text, or email was sent to me saying my food was on its way, but a few minutes after my estimated time of delivery a man was at my door with my food. This has made it difficult to get a refund for my horrible food, (still haven’t gotten my money back!) and it means not only did I pay a service fee to Grubhub for literally no reason, but my privacy was violated. Restaurant employees shouldn’t be driving to my home when I ordered through a third-party service.
That aside, let’s talk about the food. I ordered four sushi rolls, and was incredibly disappointed to find that two of them were made incorrectly, they’re not cheap. One of the rolls contained shrimp tails, inside the roll not on the ends. Ya know, the thing you pinch off a shrimp before eating it? Yeah, gross. It also had no eel sauce on top as it was supposed to, making the roll very dry, and frankly, gross. After choking down three of the eight pieces in that roll, I got so disgusted at picking shrimp tail out of my mouth and needing to wash the dry rice down with water, I threw it out. The second roll was incorrectly made with giant slices of cucumber instead of avocado. Not only does that change the texture of a sushi roll, but the taste as well. No one in my family likes cucumber in their sushi, so only one of ten pieces was eaten of that roll before we threw that one away as well. Complete waste of money!
It’s always disappointing when the food you order is wrong, but this entire experience was just awful. I’m not the type of person to write bad reviews because I understand everyone is human and mistakes are made... but when you ignore following my order through Grubhub, violate my privacy by sending an employee to my home, and send out dry, incorrectly made sushi with disgusting inedible shrimp tails inside... c’mon now. That’s just f***ing ridiculous! I have never eaten at this restaurant before tonight, and never will again after this.
Zo Sushi and Thai on 120th, Sushi Star on 120th, and Mika Sushi II on 104th are restaurants in the area that provide a MUCH better service and food quality if you’re looking for a similar menu. I highly recommend any of those restaurants!
Zen Asian Bistro & Sushi is NOT worth your business!
