Go for the views and ambiance, the food is very subpar. I've never had a drier meal in my life and one of the dishes was literally basted in sauce... Opt out of the charcuterie and cheese for the snacks. We literally got mortadella as our charcuterie and brie as our cheese options... no options, just this one cheese and meat each. Not worth the $4 upcharge per each. We ordered the blue fin tuna, which was like a crudo without oil or sauce. Literally the driest crudo you can imagine. And we ordered the chorizo dates. At this point, I was thrilled to have something saucy. Tell me why this dried my mouth out. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $90–100 Food: 1 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 5

The food was excellent, which isn't surprising since the main Avec's food is also excellent, but the bar felt like an afterthought. The cocktails in general were just ok. Expected a bit more options for drinks, maybe at least one rum based cocktail. Overall still had a good time. Would recommend for the view and the food. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $40–50

I went to Bar Avec expecting food similar to the main Avec restaurant, but that wasn’t the case at all. The only standout here is the view—everything else fell short. The food felt like glorified bar food rather than anything close to Mediterranean. We ordered the chicken and fries, described as “shawarma-style with falafel-style fries,” but it tasted no different from something you’d get at a basic Irish pub. Even more disappointing, the toum (a traditional Middle Eastern garlic sauce) tasted like plain ranch—completely missed the mark. To make matters worse, we were celebrating my birthday while visiting Chicago from California. They did bring out a cake, which was a nice gesture, but it was literally bite-sized—about an inch by an inch—which felt underwhelming given the occasion. Overall, the view is the only reason to come here. If you’re looking for good food, I wouldn’t recommend it. You’re much better off going to Avli down the street for authentic Mediterranean cuisine. Leave Bar Avec for drinks and the atmosphere, not the food. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $30–40 Food: 1 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 4
