Bowie Kitchen, formerly the Coode Street Cafe is a pleasant surprise. Reopening after a refurbishment this long established cafe has a new and vibrant lease of life. There is alfresco seating and large inside seating areas, with a take away coffee bar on your right as you walk in. The display of cakes is impressive, all made on site. For those looking for the sweets the choice is extensive with classic cakes and scones, slices, muffins, lemon meringue (wonderful), cheesecake etc. (Gluten Free options available) If your after something savoury you won't be disappointed, there is a counter displaying luscious home made pies, tuna patties, various salads etc. There is also a menu with breakfast dishes, soup of the day, and lunch including Gnocchi, Fish and Chips etc., there are Gluten free and Vegetarian options. Order and pay at the counter and your drinks and meals will be brought to your table. I chose to have the Breakfast Special, I had fried eggs sunny side up (poached or scrambled also available), included was ciabatta toast and bacon. It was delivered promptly by a friendly waiter. I accompanied the meal with a Long Black coffee which had a sublime flavour. The meal was suffice, arrived hot, the eggs well cooked and the bacon lean and tasty. Pricing is very reasonable, $13 for the breakfast special (available Mon-Thu till 11:30am), and the coffee $4.50 (Large). The beverage selection is extensive with numerous coffee options, a range of teas, pure juices, spritzers, house waters, coffee/chocolate frappes, and iced beverages like the "Neon" which is a mixture of Kale, Spinach, Banana, and Medjool Dates, or why not try an Oh,la,la!! I have no hesitation in recommending Bowie, the ambience is great, the food fresh and the variety impressive. I would ring ahead and book if you can as it is a popular place for groups and locals, however, I am a bit spontaneous and tend to just drop in but have always managed to get fed! Drew_22
