Overall, my favorite items were the Hamachi collar and the strawberry doughnuts, both are dishes I would happily reorder on a future visit. Below are my favorite items in order: The Hamachi collar was delicate, crispy, and incredibly tender. It practically melted in your mouth. The peppers complemented the dish beautifully and added just the right hint of spice. It was not only very well executed, but also felt unique compared to dishes I’ve seen elsewhere. The strawberry lemonade sauce at the bottom of the strawberry doughnuts was delightful. Paired with the crisp sugar coating on the doughnuts, it created a wonderful balance of texture and flavor. As the ice cream melted, the flavor of the dish evolved and kept each bite interesting. For whatever reason, every time I’ve been to Monroe the strawberries have been fantastic, and these were no exception. This dessert was easily one of the highlights of the meal, and I honestly wouldn’t change a thing about it. The Hamachi ponzu was also very enjoyable, though the slices were a bit thicker than what I personally prefer at most sushi restaurants. Some may view that as better value, but I tend to enjoy thinner cuts. If I could suggest one small adjustment, I’d love just a touch more acidity in the ponzu sauce, perhaps a hint more citrus or vinegar to brighten the dish even further. The Japanese fried lollipops were good, but the sauce served alongside them was exceptional. I’m a big fan of lemongrass and chives, so this dish immediately stood out to me. I genuinely wish the sauce were sold separately because I would absolutely take some home. The lollipop itself was slightly difficult to cut into due to the texture, though the sauce really tied everything together and elevated the dish. Even the restroom hand soap smelled amazing, which honestly added to the overall attention to detail and atmosphere. If I had to point out the biggest opportunity from the meal, it would probably be the Alaskan King roll. It simply wasn’t my personal favorite and felt a bit overly complex while still not especially memorable. The accompanying wasabi was interesting, though I didn’t feel it particularly enhanced the roll itself. That said, I wouldn’t let this discourage anyone from trying the restaurant, because the non sushi dishes were truly excellent and ended up being the standout part of the experience for me. The restaurant also has a very attentive staff presence, though at times it can make the space feel a little busy or crowded. One additional note, there is a 20% service fee added to the bill. It wasn’t entirely clear to some guests around me whether an additional tip was expected beyond that fee, so a little clarification from the restaurant could be helpful. Overall, I would absolutely return, especially for the Hamachi collar and strawberry doughnuts. I’m looking forward to trying more items on a future visit, though I’ll probably focus more on the kitchen dishes than the sushi next time around. Before tonight, I had eaten sushi. In fact, it's one of my favorite foods. However, before tonight, I had never experienced sushi. What Chef Cory Bahr has created here in Monroe, La., in nothing short of exceptional culinary amazingness, and he has hired a team of people to complement both the food and atmosphere. From the front door service when we were greeted to the immediate feeling of personal details in every interaction at our table, we were treated like we were royalty. I cannot stress enough how impeccable this experience was both from the flavor portfolio to the unique drink selections to the decadently divine desserts. Thank you, Chef Cory, for entrusting this brilliance to our little town. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

koko is an absolutely exquisite experience from end to end. A progressive concept with a focus on sushi, a staff that is very knowledgeable and provides great recommendations, asks about palette preferences, & even entertains custom rolls as depicted below with the ōra king salmon (secret roll with chili pepper on top) I started with the Snow White saké, along with with the moonlight roll which is a smooth, shrimp based roll wrapped in soybean paper which equated to a smooth resolution on the palette. Paired with the sake, it was wonderful. As I ate, I chatted with the staff, Chef Jeff, and Tracey who get to know you for who you are and offer suggestions on what to try next, as there are so many options. Next went with the Uni shooter which had sea urchin, caviar, quail eggs. It was remarkable and worth trying. Next came the hamachi collar with a sweet & tangy soy glaze that was extremely memorable. Finally rounded out with the “secret” roll when asking for a custom roll which was seated ōra king salmon, goat cheese, avocado, & cucumber along with red chili. What stands out most about koko, other than atmosphere, the crowd, the staff, is the way that each interaction is a carefully curated experience. One that makes you feel like you are in the heart of a major city, with a menu so diverse you can try something new every time you walk in. That is a keystone of the magic koko has captured. Am looking forward to what is next, whether it comes to specials, events or anything else Chef Cory Bahr can conjure up. This was a spectacular meal and you will leave feeling full, not stuffed and overwhelmed which is the most enjoyable to me. Thank you team for an excellent meal, evening, & experience Luke H.
