I recently visited Half Shawaya Restaurant with high expectations, especially because it is quite popular for traditional Saudi dishes like shawaya and madhbi. Unfortunately, my experience was average and did not fully meet my expectations. We ordered both the shawaya and the madhbi. The shawaya was acceptable in terms of taste, but it did not have the authentic grilled flavor and tenderness that I was expecting. It felt slightly dry and lacked the rich seasoning that usually makes shawaya enjoyable. The madhbi was the main disappointment. Traditionally, madhbi is known for being light, clean, and cooked without excess oil, allowing the natural flavor of the meat to stand out. However, the version served here had a noticeable amount of oil, which made it heavy and reduced the overall taste. Because of this, it did not feel like a true madhbi experience. On the positive side, the service was okay. The staff were polite and the waiting time was reasonable. The seating and general cleanliness were also acceptable. Overall, the restaurant is not bad, but there is definitely room for improvement, especially in maintaining authenticity in their cooking methods and controlling the amount of oil used in traditional dishes. With some adjustments, the food quality could match the expectations that customers have when visiting a place known for shawaya and madhbi.
