Innovative and Delicious: Penang Food Reimagined! Rembar is a hidden gem for anyone who loves bold flavors. They take classic Malaysian and Penang dishes and present them in a completely unexpected way. The fusion concepts are genius—think Chinese-Italian spaghetti and a 'Leh Chai' that reminds you of Italian risotto, but with local soul! Every dish, from the Otak-Otak to the Gado-Gado, was perfectly executed. Service was friendly, fast, and made us feel right in traveling but I am at home Penang. I feel so lucky to have this spot in my own hometown for when I want food that feels both familiar and brand new. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: RM 80–100 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Thank you so much for your kind words, May May. It truly means a lot to us to know that the food and experience resonated with you the way we had hoped. We put a lot of heart into how we reinterpret the flavours we grew up with, so hearing that the dishes felt both familiar and surprising at the same time is really the best kind of feedback we could ask for. We'll be sure to share your kind words with our kitchen and front of house team. They'll be so happy to hear it. We hope to welcome you back again soon.

Rembar seems to be one of the hottest places in Penang at the moment. I can see why. It's in the heart of the banking district in Georgetown, in a hip row of restaurants and bars. The interior is modern, relaxed with an open kitchen. The crew are very vocal, calling out orders while they work on some of the more innovative takes on food in town. A complimentary bowl of their spiced papadum with burnt eggplant dip lands on the table. Smokey and very tasty, almost like a cross between hummus and Baba ghanoush. Next up was their take on Pani Puri, a delightful rendition with Japanese elements like nori and prawn. One of the the night's best. A riff on Singapore Chili Crab lands on the table in the form of crab cakes, well fried, sitting in a rich tangy sauce with egg white. Gado-Gado Katsu was done well, taking Japanese once again and fusing it with Indonesian, though not as special as the previous 2. We shared 2 mains. Their popular jumbo squid was a take on local Ikan Bakar stalls. The flavour, while good, was a bit too sweet for our party. Squid itself was cooked excellently, very tender. Nam Jin Jeaw Duck was much better, with a perfectly cooked duck breast topped with Thai BBQ sauce, ulam and carrot leaves. Rich, succulent duck playing off the acidic kick of the sauce really well. The accompanying pomme puree was likewise very good. The 2 cocktails we had were very cool takes on local ingredients like Nutmeg and Calamansi as well. Shout-out to our hostess She Wei for her excellent service on the night, explaining the menu and each dish as it arrived while checking in on us whenever she could. Excellent playlist on the night too, love me some Nujabes. Up there with my favourite restaurants in Penang. Price per person: RM 60–80
