KOSHINONEGUMI GEN is an elevated soba restaurant with a modern touch. The entrance is modest, but inside, the vibe is elegant and spacious, befitting of a relaxing soba restaurant. For lunch, there are three sets: the soba lunch, the soba with tempura and sushi, and the most gorgeous set lunch. They range from out of the last one, so we got the soba with tempura lunch set. You can substitute the fine soba with the coarse soba, which was limited that day to only 15 servings. Yes, they make their own soba every day! The tempura was lightly battered but offers a solid crisp, while the fresh ingredients inside burst with their natural flavors. We got a big shrimp, sea bass, mushroom, Japanese spikenard (udo), snow peas, eggplant, and sweet potato. There was also two pieces of sushi: the bamboo shoot sushi since bamboo is in season, and the horse mackerel (aji) sushi since horse mackerel is also in season now. Both were exquisite. There was also a rolled omelet. We added the dessert. It was a soba milk pudding. Soba was boiled in milk and set over night so that the mill pudding was infused with soba umami. Very nice.
