Captain Thornton’s on Dib Lane is fantastic! I take my 5yr old there for a lunch deal every Saturday, after his MMA lesson. The fish and chips are spot on - generous portions, great value for money, cooked perfectly and the batter is full of flavour! Not only that but the staff are so polite and friendly - Fiona and Liz in particular. They always take the time to chat to my little boy and ask how he is and what he’s been up to. He loves them making a fuss of him. 10/10 from us in all aspects! Used to really love this place, however, the last few times I've visited the fish has been the smallest portion and is mostly made up of grease. There is no crunch to the batter, and the portions sizes are inconsistent, my fish was what I would expect for £9, my partners however, I think they must have given him a child fish, that or they had spare lunch time specials they needed rid of. Said I wouldn't go back after the last time, but this time i mean it. I will take my business elsewhere for my weekly fish and chips. Think some of the staff have lost their drive to deliver quality food, and honestly, the staff seem miserable, no greeting and no smile in sight.
