We came to The Cock Inn because I fancied a pie and we’d eaten here on a previous visit. Unfortunately, this time was a completely different experience. We sat down at a table covered in crumbs and eventually had to ask someone to wipe it. A guy came over, gave it a half-hearted swipe, and somehow managed to leave most of the crumbs behind. Which, as it turns out, was quite thoughtful because those crumbs gave us something to stare at during the HOUR we waited for our food in an almost completely empty pub. At one point we asked a woman, who appeared to be a server but was busy sorting silverware, what was happening with our food. She was incredibly rude, although she did assure us it was coming. Apparently it was coming from somewhere very, very far away. When it finally arrived, the mashed potatoes were ice-cold little potato rocks. Wayne’s mum had the sausage and mash and said her sausage was badly overcooked as well. I had the chicken and ham hock pie. It was good. No complaints, but certainly nothing worth writing home about after an hour-long hostage situation with the table crumbs. Wayne had the shepherd’s pie and actually thought it was fantastic. Unfortunately, even a fantastic shepherd’s pie loses some of its sparkle after you’ve had enough time waiting for it to contemplate your entire life and possibly begin a new one. The most frustrating part is that we’d been here before and specifically came back because we remembered enjoying it. This visit was painfully slow, the service ranged from indifferent to outright rude, and parts of the food were served stone cold. Good pie. Great shepherd’s pie. Absolutely dreadful experience getting either of them. Food: 3 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 3 Price per person: £10–20

After booking last week for the festive menu was phoned to come early ( 1 hour ) due to overbooking and staff shortages . Arrived and no one seemed aware of the booking finally sat down and given a standard menu . When we questioned this we were told the festive menu wasn't available to us . According to the manager ir wasn't booked properly ( it was done in person with a list from the menu ) . So no one appears to have a clue . Now sitting in a competitors restraunt ..
