Holly was absolutely amazing at the High Tea event at Rombergs! She was so friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience feel really special. Even though it was busy, she was always checking in, making sure everything was perfect, and had such a lovely attitude the entire time. You can tell she genuinely cares about giving great service. She was such a big part of why we had such a great afternoon — Rombergs is lucky to have her! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

The venue presents itself as though it’s engineered for intimate, elevated dining, but the execution lands somewhere closer to impractical theatrics than ambience. The lighting is so aggressively dim it stops being atmospheric and starts becoming obstructive, reducing the experience to guesswork rather than comfort. That issue is compounded by an overpowering, persistent smoke aroma - reminiscent of smoked seafood - that seems to be driven by the venue’s “signature” smoking cocktails. Instead of adding sophistication, it saturates the space and dominates everything else, including the food. By the time the wagyu rump cap arrived, any appetite had already been eroded. At roughly 200g and around the $60 mark, it should have been the centrepiece, but it never had a chance to be appreciated in its own right. To finish, the refusal of a takeaway container under a blanket policy only reinforces the impression of rigidity over hospitality - prioritising rules over reasonable guest experience. For contrast, a visit to establishments such as “8 at Trinity” in Morisset would be instructive; there, atmosphere, service, and execution actually align with what a premium dining experience is supposed to deliver. I've stayed at this Crystalbrook a couple of times and had drinks at Romberg's each time. Great spot. Fantastic setting, nice wine list (a good selection under Coravin!) and delicious snacks. Holly served us this time and was awesome. I'll be here next time I'm in Newcastle as well... Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
