Great selection of always changing cask beer, as well as bottles. Ciders and spirits also available. Very friendly, with service at your table - there is no bar, so don't walk thru looking for it Definitely a 10/10 micropub Price per person: £10–20

This micro-pub disappoints in almost every respect. Its focus should first and foremost be the range and quality of the beer it sells. The range is limited in both style and ABV and the place clearly does not have the footfall to keep the beers it does sell in decent condition. Maybe cut back to two or three cask ales instead of four? With respect to footfall, it is not surprising that it is lacking when you can’t rely on the Boat’s published opening hours. As a licensee and ex-publican I know how important it is to be open when you say you’re going to be open; I don’t mean open to the last second of your permitted hours, just open to the times you advertise. So, having had one mediocre (at best) pint of Gadd’s, I decided to switch to a cider as ‘one for the road’, even though it was priced at £6, the most expensive cider I’ve had in Thanet. This was at 7.57pm, the advertised closing time being 9pm. I would have been gone by 8.30pm. But, I was told by the landlord ‘I’ve been here since 8.30am, I’m closing’. Maybe the Boat is making so much money through its overpriced cider that it doesn’t need custom, or maybe it just doesn’t give a toss about its customers. Whichever it is, there’s plenty of good pubs in Ramsgate which demonstrate they do want people’s money and that they do appreciate their customers. Sadly The Hovelling Boat is not one of them. Had a great night at the Hovelling Boat Inn - Lovely atmosphere. The man behind the bar (Richard I think) was absolutely lovely and the cake his wife had made was super tasty to. We will be back. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Price per person: £10–20
