One of the most pretentious “cocktail bars” I have ever been to. The supposed “expert” bartenders left me baffled. To start, I went several months ago but am only now writing this review because I didn’t want to leave a rash or overly emotional review. After much deliberation, however, I feel the need to review this “cocktail bar.”. After sitting around for over 30 minutes waiting for our drinks, I was finally served my Moscow Mule, and there was absolutely nothing right about this classic cocktail that any self-respecting cocktail bar should be able to make properly. First, I questioned why it wasn’t served in its traditional vessel: a copper mug. The waiter condescendingly replied, “Do you not know how disgusting and unhygienic that would be out of a copper mug? Glass is how we do things here.” What an utter buffoon. A copper mug is not only the traditional way to serve a Moscow Mule, but real copper is also naturally antibacterial. After being disappointed with the presentation, I still didn’t let that deter me from enjoying the drink. Unfortunately, I was disappointed again. It was so sweet and oversaturated with simple syrup that it left a glossy film on my teeth, and it didn’t even have mint as a garnish. A Moscow Mule is supposed to be refreshing and crisp, almost acting as a palate cleanser. After finishing the terrible Moscow Mule, I decided maybe Moscow Mules just aren’t their thing. I tried to keep a positive mindset and ordered a drink that no decent cocktail bar could possibly mess up: a simple Tom Collins with Tanqueray Rangpur. To my dismay, they only had standard Tanqueray. Fine, but I was left scratching my head. A good cocktail bar should not only have a variety of gin brands and styles, but also different varieties within those brands. But whatever—I tried to keep a positive mindset. Well, that Tom Collins sealed my opinion on Wolfskill. The drink was absolutely lifeless. It wasn’t refreshing, and I could barely taste any zesty lime flavor. I assume this is because they use some type of premixed lime mixer instead of freshly squeezed lime juice and again, it was far too sweet for a traditional Tom Collins. How can such a well-reviewed “cocktail bar” miss so badly on two traditional cocktails that even a standard bar could make halfway decent? Overall, Wolfskill is skating by on its inflated reputation, pretension, and the cool atmosphere it has cultivated. However, anyone with decent cocktail standards will be sorely disappointed here. If you know what a good cocktail should taste like and are expecting high-quality drinks that respect traditional ingredients and recipes, stay far away from W. Wolfskill “Cocktail Bar.” It’s only a “cocktail bar” to the poor saps who have never experienced a true one. Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 4 Price per person: $20–30
